Note that ToS 3.6 does not apply — we are not publishing to extensions
The notes cite Blender extension ToS clause 3.6 ("fully written in Python, no pre-compiled dependencies") in three places: against KIRI's 22 wheels, in BlendSplat's favour, and as a reason the PLY-writer route is attractive. We are not shipping to extensions.blender.org, so none of that constrains us — it is information about those projects, not a requirement on ours. Recorded because a stale constraint is worse than no constraint: it silently narrows options later, and nobody re-checks a rule that reads like a rule. Staying pure Python is still worth doing, for a reason that survives: the add-on installs from a zip with no build step and every avoided dependency is one that cannot break on someone's Blender. That is a preference we may trade away deliberately. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

## Scope note (2026-08-18) — we are NOT publishing to extensions.blender.org

Decided, so **ToS clause 3.6 does not constrain us**. Everywhere it is cited
below — as a mark against KIRI's 22 wheels, as a point in BlendSplat's favour, as
a reason the PLY writer is attractive — treat it as *information about those
projects*, not as a requirement on ours. We can depend on compiled packages if
there is ever a reason to.

There is still a good reason to stay pure Python, and it is not the ToS: the
add-on installs from a zip with no build step, on any machine, and every
dependency we avoid is one that cannot break on someone's Blender. That is a
preference we can trade away deliberately, rather than a rule.
