# Phase 3: Sub-Agent Development - COMPLETE

**Completion Date**: 2026-01-16
**Status**: ✅ Complete

## Overview

Phase 3 focused on creating two intelligent sub-agents that use the semantic mapping data from Phase 2 to help users design and architect P2P applications using the holepunchto ecosystem.

## Deliverables

### 1. Designer Sub-Agent (`designer-agent.js`)

**Purpose**: Takes user requirements and recommends appropriate holepunchto repositories.

**Features**:
- Natural language query matching to use cases
- Direct use-case lookup
- Lists all available use cases
- Provides detailed repo information including:
- Stability and maturity level
- Platform compatibility
- Stars and popularity
- Category classification
- Required vs optional repos
- P2P patterns involved

**Usage Examples**:
```bash
# Natural language query
node designer-agent.js "I want to build a distributed database"
# Direct use case lookup
node designer-agent.js --use-case p2p-file-sharing
# List all use cases
node designer-agent.js --list-use-cases
```

**Data Sources**:
- semantic-categories.json
- use-case-map.json
- stability-index.json
- platform-support.json
- repo_map.json

### 2. Architect Sub-Agent (`architect-agent.js`)

**Purpose**: Takes a list of repositories and designs system architecture.

**Features**:
- Organizes repos into architectural layers:
- Foundation Layer (stable, no internal dependencies)
- Core Layer (key patterns, few dependencies)
- Integration Layer
- Application Layer (high-level, many dependencies)
- Identifies P2P patterns in use across selected repos
- Generates dependency graph (internal dependencies only)
- Lists integration points (direct dependencies + pattern-based)
- Provides architectural recommendations:
- Missing required dependencies
- Pattern suggestions (replication, peer-discovery)
- Layer distribution warnings
- Shows detailed API data for repos with deep analysis

**Usage Examples**:
```bash
# Analyze specific repos
node architect-agent.js hypercore hyperbee hyperswarm
# Analyze use case architecture
node architect-agent.js --use-case distributed-database
```

**Data Sources**:
- pattern-map.json
- dependency-graph.json
- use-case-map.json
- stability-index.json
- repo_map.json
- api-extract.json (for 133 deeply analyzed repos)

### Key Design Decisions

1651. **CLI-based agents**: Both agents are standalone Node.js scripts, easy to use and integrate
1662. **Modular data**: Each agent loads only the JSON files it needs
1673. **Rich output**: Formatted text output with Unicode box-drawing for clarity
1684. **Multiple modes**: Both support direct lookup and intelligent matching
1695. **Actionable recommendations**: Both provide next steps and command examples
1706. **Deep integration**: Architect agent uses api-extract.json when available (133 repos)

## Data Coverage

### Semantic Mapping Coverage (Phase 2)
- **All 529 repos** categorized in semantic-categories.json
- **All 529 repos** classified for stability
- **All 529 repos** classified for platform support
- **133 repos** with deep API data used by Architect agent
- **11 use cases** defined with required/optional repos
- **10 P2P patterns** mapped to repos

### Agent Utilization
- Designer agent: Uses data from all 529 repos
- Architect agent: Uses data from all 529 repos, with enhanced details for 133 deeply analyzed repos

## Conclusion

Phase 3 successfully created two intelligent sub-agents that transform the raw data from Phases 1 and 2 into actionable recommendations and architectural designs. The agents work together to guide users from initial requirements to concrete implementation plans.

The Designer agent excels at understanding user intent and matching it to appropriate repositories, while the Architect agent provides deep architectural analysis to ensure proper system design.

Both agents are ready for production use and can be extended with additional features in future phases.
